Operatives of the Kaduna State Police Command have cordoned off the road leading to the Government House in response to the #EndbadGovernance protest, which escalated into violence on Thursday.
According to The PUNCH, a coalition of police, civil defense, and state vigilance service members established the barricade to prevent unauthorized access to the Government House and nearby areas.
The police have called on parents and guardians to prevent their children from disturbing public peace during demonstrations, emphasizing the importance of taking such warnings seriously.
In a statement issued on Friday, Spokesman for the State Police Command, Mansir Hassan, advised protest organizers to coordinate with the Commissioner of Police to ensure peaceful demonstrations.
Hassan noted that the protest was overtaken by hoodlums who tried to breach the Government House, injuring two officers and damaging a police armored personnel carrier in the process.
As the protest continued into its second day on Friday, major roads, including the typically busy Ahmadu Bello Way in the Central Business District, remained largely empty with minimal vehicular and pedestrian movement.
Many residents opted to stay indoors, wary of potential unrest, and public transport services operated at a diminished capacity.
Numerous businesses and shops, especially along Junction Road and Ahmadu Bello Way, remained closed as traders avoided the market.
Observations revealed an increased presence of security forces at key locations across the state, particularly in central areas such as the Stadium Roundabout, Katsina Road Roundabout, and NEPA Roundabout.
The protest, which began peacefully on Thursday, devolved into chaos in these locations.
More than 25,000 security personnel, including police and military, have been stationed at strategic points to maintain order and safeguard both citizens and protesters demonstrating against bad governance.
