The Lagos State Police Command is set to arraign Ayomide Adeleye, 23, for the alleged murder of his neighbour, 21-year-old Christianah Idowu.
According to FIJ, Adeleye, who has confessed to the crime, will be brought before the Magistrate Court in Ogba on Thursday to face trial for her murder.
Rita Ozobia, Idowu’s foster mother, confirmed the development. “The police informed me this morning that they are taking him to the magistrate court in Ogba today,” she told FIJ. “I asked if that was the appropriate court, and they said yes.”
Adeleye was reportedly the last person to see Idowu alive on August 19. According to police reports, she had stopped by Adeleye’s shop on her way to the University of Lagos, where she worked, seeking shelter from the rain.
Adeleye invited her into his family home, where he allegedly attempted to assault her before strangling her to death.
Following the murder, Adeleye sent a staged photo of Idowu to her foster mother, pretending she was still alive and demanding a ransom of N3 million.
A manhunt was launched after her disappearance, and Adeleye was eventually arrested by soldiers from the 174 Battalion on September 1. He reportedly confessed to the crime the following day.
