The Nigeria Police is set to implement the “Saver School Programme” in primary, secondary schools, and university institutions nationwide in the near future.
The implementation of this project would effectively mitigate the risk of schools and students being exposed to bandits and kidnappers across all regions of the nation, thereby ensuring their safety and security.
During a two-day working visit to Kwara state, the Assistant Inspector General of Police for Zone 8, Alhaji Ishola Babaita, which encompasses Kwara and Kogi states, addressed members of the Nigeria Police, as well as other relevant stakeholders such as vigilantes, hunters, and Fulani leaders. This disclosure was made in Ilorin, Kwara state.
“In order to have a more focused and robust response to the existing challenge of constant attacks on educational institutions, culminating in the abduction of students, the Police has marshalled an action plan and designed a couple of strategies (both kinetic and non-kinetic) to prevent or checkmate such incidences from being a recurrent challenge in our polity.
“Consequently, the Nigeria Police, under the leadership of the Ag. IGP Kayode Egbetokun has set up a special squad to be known as the Schools Protection Squad (SPS) that will serve as an intervention unit to curb the menace.
“The Squad is expected to commence operation in every part of the country. All hands must be on deck,” he said.
