The Lagos State Police Command has uncovered a baby factory operating in the Ijegun area of the state, leading to the rescue of 10 individuals and the arrest of three suspects.
State Police Command Spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin, revealed the development to reporters on Monday, noting that the discovery followed a tip-off received by the police last Saturday.
Acting swiftly, officers raided the identified location and apprehended the prime suspect, 35-year-old Mariam Vincent, along with two accomplices – Orie Ruth, 23, and Ujunwa Ifeanyi, 18.
During the operation, police rescued a group of victims comprising seven adult women and three children aged seven, five, and two.
The adult victims include Precious (24), Magdalene (25), Adaobi (23), Princess (22), Ifeanyi (25), and Amaka (26). The children were identified as Destiny (7), Miracle (5), and Success (2).
All rescued victims are currently receiving necessary care and support.
Hundeyin explained that, during interrogation, the suspects confessed to kidnapping their victims from different locations across the state to operate the illicit baby factory.
He emphasized that the investigation remains ongoing and the suspects will be charged in court.
Providing further updates on recent security operations, Hundeyin said, “A total of 39 suspects who engaged in various crimes, including murder, kidnapping, armed robbery, rape, child stealing, vandalism, illegal operation of a baby factory, illegal possession of firearms, and illicit drugs were arrested.”
In a separate incident, police operatives successfully rescued two individuals abducted by gunmen in the Igbe Alagemo, Ijede area of Ikorodu.
The armed group had launched an attack on the community during the night of March 26, 2025, prompting a swift response following a distress call received at about 9 p.m.
Hundeyin said, “Armed kidnappers invaded the quiet community, forcefully entering the residence of a 40-year-old man identified as Dare. The attackers shot and killed his security dog before abducting him.
“Not stopping there, the kidnappers proceeded to a neighbouring house, where they seized a second victim, 25-year-old Rodiat, under similarly violent circumstances.”
A coordinated search effort involving local security outfits and police operatives ensued, culminating in the rescue of both victims at around 11:56 p.m. on March 29.
“The victims were immediately reunited with their families, and the area is now relatively calm. Surveillance continues, and an investigation is underway to identify and apprehend the perpetrators of the crime,” Hundeyin added.
