Commuters traveling along the Keffi-Abuja expressway on Monday faced significant delays when military officers established a roadblock to conduct a stop-and-search operation on vehicles heading into the nation’s capital.
According to Daily Trust, the soldiers set up the barricade at Sani Abacha Barracks, just before the well-known AYA roundabout.
The blockade, which security agencies implemented without prior notice, resulted in a traffic jam that stretched back to Nyanya Bridge, more than 12 kilometers from the checkpoint.
Many civil servants and traders who commute to the Federal Capital Territory from areas such as Nyanya, Karu, Maraba, and Masaka were affected.
After hours of immobility, a number of them had no choice but to turn back and head home.
This incident occured just three days before a planned nationwide protest against the economic difficulties currently gripping Nigeria.
Some youths have announced a nationwide protest set to begin on August 1 to address the escalating cost of living and economic hardships in the country.
