#EndBadGovernanceInNigeria protesters were reportedly injured after police intervened to disperse their gathering on Friday in Abuja.
According to The PUNCH, despite warnings from law enforcement against holding a procession, the demonstrators proceeded with their plans.
The police set an ambush for the protesters immediately after the National Hospital area. Using teargas and live ammunition, they swiftly moved to break up the gathering.
During the dispersal, several protesters sustained injuries.
Speaking to journalists, five of the injured individuals condemned the police for their aggressive actions.
They recounted their harrowing experiences, stating that they had to leap into nearby bushes to avoid being hit by live bullets.
One of the protesters said, “We had to jump into the bush when the police began firing live ammunition at us. It was terrifying.”
The injured protesters criticized the police’s handling of the situation, emphasizing that their demonstration was peaceful and within their rights.
They expressed frustration and disappointment over what they perceived as an excessive use of force.
Witnesses at the scene described the chaos that ensued when the police began their crackdown.
Many protesters scattered in different directions, seeking safety and trying to escape the onslaught of teargas and gunfire.
