The trial of ASP Drambi Vandi, who is accused of killing Lagos-based lawyer Mrs. Omobolanle Raheem on Christmas Day, will start in a Lagos State High Court on Monday (today).
It would be recalled that, Vandi, a police officer stationed at the Ajiwe Police Station in Ajah, Lagos State, shot and killed Raheem as she was returning after an outing with her family.
The purported killing took place in Ajah.
The trial will take place in front of Justice I.O. Harrison at Tafawa Balewa Square, according to a statement issued by the attorney general and commissioner for justice for Lagos State, Mr. Moyosore Onigbanjo (SAN).
“The trial of ASP Vandi who allegedly killed Raheem on December 25, 2022, along Ajah Expressway will commence before Justice I.O. Harrison at a Lagos High Court sitting at Tafawa Balewa Square,” he said.
On December 30, 2022, a day after the Police Service Commission had authorized his suspension due to the alleged death, Vandi made an appearance before Chief Magistrate C.A. Adedayo.
In accordance with Adedayo’s directive, he was to be detained at the Ikoyi detention center while the Lagos State Director of Public Prosecutions offered his opinion.
Vandi will be tried in accordance with Section 223 of the Lagos State Criminal Law of 2015.
