Social media on Monday buzzed with reports of the suspension of the Senior Pastor of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, City of David Parish, Region 20, Pastor Idowu Iluyomade.
According to Vanguard, however, it was learned that he was actually transferred to another parish.
Contrary to reports suggesting a three-month suspension, a source indicated that Pastor Iluyomade was simply moved to the Throne of Grace parish in Ebute Metta, Lagos, which serves as the mission’s headquarters.
The transfer was reportedly officially announced and confirmed during the RCCG’s monthly thanksgiving service on Sunday, June 2, 2024.
Pastor Iluyomade’s new role is as the Pastor-in-Charge of elders at the RCCG Region 1 in Ebute Metta.
It was said that Pastor Iluyomade expressed dissatisfaction as he had not yet reached the retirement age of 70.
The Pastor-in-Charge of RCCG Resurrection Parish of Region 11, Charles Kpandei, was asked to replace Pastor Iluyomade at the City of David Parish.
Both pastors were reportedly due for transfer after serving eight years in their respective parishes.
He said, “It is normal to have a change in leadership. Most RCCG pastors go on transfer. The church transfers pastors around and both Pastors Iluyomade and Kanpdei were due for transfers.
“Both of them have done more than eight years as regional pastors and were actually transferred. RCCG pastors can even been transferred abroad. It has nothing to do with any event or politics. They were both due for transfers.”
Attempts to reach Pastor Iluyomade for comments on Monday were unsuccessful.
The City of David Parish had recently been embroiled in controversies following the 60th birthday celebration of Pastor Iluyomade’s wife, Siju, just nine days after one of the parish’s major financiers, Herbert Wigwe, CEO of Access Holdings, died in a helicopter crash alongside his wife, Doreen, and son Chizzy in the United States.
This development reportedly drew the ire of the General Overseer of the RCCG, Enoch Adeboye.
