The recent award of ‘Women of Courage’ to Alba Rueda, a biological male has attracted criticism as the award was meant to be female-specific.
The White House through US first lady, Jill Biden and Secretary of State Antony Blinken hosted the seventeenth annual International Women of Courage Awards ceremony from the White House on Wednesday.
Critics have taken to Twitter to express their opinion on the award to a biological male among 10 women honoured.
According to katv.com, in Argentina, Alba Rueda is a transgender women who was kicked out of classrooms, barred from sitting for exams, refused job opportunities, subjected to violence and rejected by her family, Deputy Secretary of Defense Kathleen Hicks said of Rueda during the ceremony. “But in the face of these challenges she worked to end violence and discrimination against the LGBTQI+ community in Argentina.”
Charlie Kirk has taken to his twitter handle to express his opinion @charliekirk11
“Alba Rueda—International Women of Courage Award
” Rachel Levine—USA Today’s Woman of the Year
” Lia Thomas—nominated for the 2022 NCAA Woman of the Year
” Fae Johnstone—” Hershey’s International Women’s Day honoree
” Is the message supposed to be that men are better than women?”
Cait Corrigan @iamcaitcorrigan posted a picture of two women on the left and Blinken on the right and said: “Jill Biden gave a biological male the “International Women Of Courage Award” on International Women’s Day because the Left are on a mission to erase women.”
Although this is not the first time that a sex-specific award has been given to someone born to the opposite gender, but the trend of attacks on award to transger has been consistent.
It could be recalled that US Today was slammed last year for issuing same award to transgendered Dr. Rachel Levine, Assistant Secretary for the Department of Health and Human Services and US first openly transgender federal official to be confirmed by the Senate.
