The lawmaker representing Igboetiti/Uzo Uwani Constituency in the House of Representatives, Dr. Martins Oke, has dismissed a recall petition filed against him, describing it as an “academic exercise” and labelling the allegations as false and misleading.
The petition, submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission, was signed by four constituents—Chizoba Ugwuagbo, Clinton Ogbonna, Amah Sabinus, and Onyekachi Okenwa Stephen. The petitioners cited non-performance, lack of constituency engagement, incompetence, and negligence as grounds for their action.
However, in a statement issued by his media aide, Solomon Gwiyi, Dr. Oke rejected the claims, calling them “a tissue of lies, inaccurate reports, and deliberate misinformation.” Gwiyi emphasised that the petition lacked substance and failed to reflect the true situation of the lawmaker’s performance.
Gwiyi outlined some of Dr. Oke’s significant legislative and constituency efforts, which include:
– Sponsoring a bill aimed at creating Adada State in the Southeast.
– Advocating for federal intervention to complete the Adada River Dam.
– Addressing security challenges along Ukpata Road in Uzo Uwani.
– Holding town hall meetings to engage directly with community members.
– Distributing three trucks of fertilisers to over 500 farmers in August 2024.
– Providing 3,000 bags of rice to constituents during the December 2024 festive season.
– Maintaining a fully equipped constituency office in Aku, Igboetiti Local Government Area.
The media aide urged the public and critics to verify Dr. Oke’s constituency projects rather than propagate false narratives. He reassured constituents of the lawmaker’s unwavering commitment to effective representation and community development.
Gwiyi further noted that Dr. Oke’s dedication to his constituency remains steadfast, as evidenced by his numerous interventions and community-focused initiatives. He concluded by reiterating the lawmaker’s resolve to continue delivering quality representation to the people of Igboetiti/Uzo Uwani.
