The House of Representatives on Thursday screened and confirmed President Bola Tinubu’s nominees to serve on the Board and Management of the Niger Delta Development Commission.
Their confirmation followed Tinubu’s request for confirmation of the NDDC’s chairman and governing board members in accordance with section 2(2) of the Niger Delta Development Commission (Establishment etc.) Act.
Mr. Chiedu Ebie was confirmed as the NDDC board chairman, alongside 16 other individuals who will serve on the commission’s board.
The House Committee on NDDC Chairman, Erhiatake Ibori-Suenu, expressed the need for visionary leaders with integrity to fulfill the NDDC’s mandate effectively.
“Now, more than ever before, the NDDC needs visionary leaders with integrity to drive the discharge of the commission’s mandate, to translate to tangible impact on the lives of the people and communities in the Niger Delta,” he said.
Those screened and confirmed include Mr. Chiedu Ebie and Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, the designates for NDDC Chairman and Managing Director, Chief Executive Officer, respectively.
The Deputy Minority Leader of the House, Ali Isa, moved a motion for the nominees to be allowed to take a bow, given that the Senate had previously screened and confirmed the nominees.
The motion was seconded by Deputy Leader of the House, Abdullahi Ibrahim Halims
With the ad-hoc committee’s decision to confirm all designates, the National Assembly is now expected to transmit its resolution to the Presidency, effectively fulfilling Section 2 (2) (a) of the NDDC Act, which prescribes that nominees must be screened and confirmed by the Senate in consultation with the House of Representatives.
