A bill proposing a return to Nigeria’s old national anthem sparked intense debate on the floor of the House of Representatives on Thursday.
According to The PUNCH, the bill, sponsored by Julius Ihonvbere, aims to revive the pre-1978 national anthem, which he believes will foster patriotism and nationalism.
While Ahmed Jaha, a lawmaker from Borno State, backed the bill, the House Minority Leader, Kingsley Chinda, vehemently opposed it.
Ihonvbere argued that reverting to the old national anthem would reignite a sense of patriotism and nationalism among Nigerians.
