The Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors, on Tuesday, declared a nationwide indefinite strike, taking effect from 12 midnight of Wednesday, July 26.
According to AIT News, the industrial action follows expiration of ultimatum given to government over lingering demands. These include immediate payment of Residency Training Fund and issuance of circular for one-for-one replacement of manpower.
They are also demanding an immediate reversal of the downgrading of membership by Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria.
This development is coming even after the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, had a meeting with members of the association on Monday, July 24.
After the meeting, Abbas disclosed that, “These issues and more can and will be resolved without embarking on an industrial actions especially if we acknowledge the fact that this government is new and not with Ministers yes.
“Patience is required for amicable resolutions to be reached.
