Security operatives in Imo State have killed four suspected members of the Indigenous People of Biafra and its armed wing, the Eastern Security Network, during a gun battle in the Ezioha, Eziama Autonomous Community, Mbaitoli Local Government Area. Five others were apprehended in the operation.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Henry Okoye, confirmed the development in a statement on Sunday.
He noted that the operation, which also extended to Njaba and other affected areas, underscores the government’s commitment to ensuring public safety.
“In a sustained effort to protect lives and property in Imo State, security forces successfully neutralized four suspected terrorists and apprehended five others after a fierce gun duel with individuals linked to IPOB/ESN,” Okoye said.
He revealed that various items were recovered during the operation, including eight motorcycles, explosive devices, and communication equipment allegedly used by the suspects.
“The recovered items include eight motorcycles, several dangerous weapons, explosive devices, and communication equipment linked to the group. These findings highlight the continued threat posed by the group to peace and security in the region,” he added.
Okoye commended the joint forces for their professionalism and praised the synergy between the Nigeria Police Force and the Nigerian Army’s 34 Artillery Brigade, Obinze.
“The Commissioner of Police, CP Aboki Danjuma, and Brigadier General U.A. Lawal, Commander of the 34 Artillery Brigade, expressed their appreciation for the diligence and professionalism displayed by the operatives during the operation,” he stated.
He further emphasized that the operation aligns with ongoing efforts to ensure the safety of communities across Imo State, particularly during the holiday season.
“This proactive measure reflects the state government’s dedication to maintaining peace and security, especially during the festive period when criminal activities often escalate,” Okoye added.
