The Senate has initiated a new inquiry into the production of recently designed Nigerian currency notes by the Nigerian Security Printing and Minting Company, which were scheduled for circulation by the Central Bank of Nigeria in December 2022.
According to The PUNCH, Senator Adams Oshiomole (APC, Edo-North), a committee member, raised the proposal for an investigation and requested documentation regarding the production of these new notes.
Oshiomole said, “When coming to see us, you should come with documents related to the printing of new naira notes.
“We need to see how much was printed, how much was spent printing the new naira notes.”
Recall that the redesign of the naira and the implementation of the cashless policy by the CBN led to a crisis in the country in the lead-up to the general elections.
