The Senate on Thursday passed a bill extending the implementation period of the 2023 supplementary appropriation until December 31, 2024.
According to a statement on the official X handle of the Nigerian Senate, the lawmakers suspended their rules to expedite the passage of the bill, which was done in less than 20 minutes.
This decision comes after a two-hour closed-door session.
The extension is the third for the budget, which was initially set to expire on December 31, 2023, and later extended to March 31, 2024, and then June 30, 2024.
The Senate’s move comes just four days before the deadline and ahead of their scheduled resumption date of July 2, 2024.
