The Senate has confirmed Nnanna Uzor-Kalu as a member of the National Assembly Service Commission, making him the second nominee from the South-East to secure approval.
Kalu, a former two-term member of the House of Representatives and younger brother of ex-Abia State Governor Senator Orji Uzor-Kalu, initially faced a delay in confirmation due to a petition against him.
However, following a report by the Senate Ethics Committee recommending his appointment, the upper chamber gave its approval on Thursday.
During the plenary, the Chairman of the Committee, Senator Cyril Fasuyi, presented the list of confirmed nominees.
Those approved include Dr. Saviour Enyiekere (South-South), Suleiman Hunkuyi (North-West), Yusuf Yusuf (North-West), Aminu Malle (North-East), and Alhaji Mahmud (North-East). Others on the list are Mark Terso (North-Central), Salihu Balogun (North-Central), Taiwo Oluga (South-West), Afeez Ipesa-Balogun (South-West), Festus Odii (South-East), Patrick Giwa (South-South), and Mrs. Mary Ekpeyong (South-South).
Fasuyi reassured the Senate that all confirmed nominees had met the necessary qualifications, possessed relevant experience, and had reputable backgrounds.
He further noted that while the South-East nominee’s confirmation was initially held back, the Ethics, Code of Conduct, and Public Petitions Committee had since completed its review, leading to his eventual approval.
