In a bid to support older women, the National Senior Citizens Centre has resolved to partner with relevant agencies to provide a conducive work environment for aged mothers.
The centre’s director general, Dr Emem Omokaro, during a town hall meeting at Bwari on Monday said the centre was determined to support senior citizens, especially aged mothers to boost their agricultural business and ensure a decent living.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria, Omokaro stressed that women are assets in their communities adding that partnering with relevant agencies will help older women live a quality lifestyle.
“We took time to develop a wide sector intervention for communities; we call them grandmothers arise for good. Principally, the focus is on all the women who we know are assets in their communities.
“Most of them who are farmers and engaged in crafts have been doing their businesses individually, not making a headway in terms of breaking even but at least, mitigating multidimensional competition,” the NSCC boss added.
She enjoined royal fathers to work with the community to end open defecation through primary healthcare as well as institute national health insurance and access to health.
Dignitaries who graced the event included representatives from the Federal Capital Territory Primary Healthcare Board, Water Aid, FCT Head of Agricultural Services and Sanitation; and the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency.
