Columbian singer and songwriter, Shakira Isabel Mebarak Ripoll, professionally known as Shakira’s song about her ex-boyfriend Gerard Pique cheating on her has smashed numerous YouTube records.
Out of Your League’s music video has received more than 63 million views in 24 hours, making it the most popular Latin song during that time.
After its release, the song “BZRP Music Session #53” ignited social media. In just 17 hours, 34 million people listened to it, and it sparked a number of responses.
The 45-year-old singer launched a rant at her ex-boyfriend, 35, and even made fun of his 23-year-old girlfriend, Clara Chia.
A part of the lyrics read; “Lots of gym work, but work your mind as well.
“You swapped a Ferrari for a (Renault) Twingo, a Rolex for a Casio.
“I wouldn’t go back to you, even if you cried or begged me. I was out of your league and that’s why you are with someone like you,” she sang.
Shakira included the names of the couple, Pique and Clara, in case there were any questions about who the song was intended for.
An advertising campaign for the song’s release featured an airplane flying above the Argentine beach town of Mar de Plata while dragging a banner with the lyrics “A she-wolf like me is not for someone like you.”
She has written three songs on their breakup, which was made public in June.
The duo were together for more than a decade and have two sons: nine-year-old Milan and Sasha, seven.
They never wedded, so, Shakira didn’t give Pique any of her reputed $300 million inheritance.
After an 18-year football career filled with success, he retired in November, having made enough money to put money into multiple multi-million euro business ventures.
Shakira had intended to go to Miami with her two children, but she had been told to appear in court in Spain for tax fraud.
For dodging taxes totaling 14.5 million euros between 2012 and 2014, the prosecution has asked for an eight-year term and a fine of 24 million euros ($26 million).
In 2016, Pique was found guilty of tax evasion and later required to pay the tax authority 2.1 million euros.
