Vice President Kashim Shettima has departed from Abuja to New York to represent Nigeria at the 79th Session of the United Nations General Assembly.
According to The PUNCH, Shettima is attending the event on behalf of President Bola Tinubu, who tasked him with leading the Nigerian delegation, according to a statement from Stanley Nkwocha, the Vice President’s Senior Special Assistant on Media and Communication.
Tinubu remains in Nigeria to address critical domestic concerns, including the aftermath of severe flooding.
While at the UNGA, Vice President Shettima will present Nigeria’s national statement and participate in key discussions and bilateral meetings.
The high-level General Debate, themed “Leaving No One Behind: Acting Together for the Advancement of Peace, Sustainable Development, and Human Dignity for Present and Future Generations,” will run from September 24 to 28, 2024.
