Vice President Kashim Shettima welcomed Crown Princess Victoria Désirée of Sweden at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa in Abuja on April 7, 2025.
The Crown Princess arrived at the Villa at 2:13 pm, where she was greeted by Senator Ibrahim Hadejia, the Deputy Chief of Staff to the President. He then escorted her to the Vice President’s office.
Victoria’s visit, which runs from April 7 to April 9, is aimed at strengthening diplomatic and economic relations between Sweden and Nigeria, according to the Swedish Embassy.
During her time in Nigeria, she will engage with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, and the Governor of Lagos State.
A key highlight of her trip is the inauguration of the Swedish Trade Office in Lagos, which is expected to enhance bilateral trade ties between the two nations.
In October 2024, Vice President Shettima was received by Crown Princess Victoria at the Royal Palace in Stockholm during his official visit to Sweden.
This marks one of the few high-profile visits by European royals to Nigeria. In May 2024, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, visited Nigeria for three days at the invitation of Nigeria’s Chief of Defense Staff.
Their trip aimed to promote the Invictus Games, a cause Nigeria joined in 2022.
In November 2018, Prince Charles, now King Charles III, and Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall, visited Nigeria as part of a West African tour.
Their visit included meetings with President Muhammadu Buhari, interactions with traditional rulers, and discussions on peacebuilding, interfaith dialogue, environmental sustainability, and youth entrepreneurship.
