Imo State Commissioner of Police, Aboki Danjuma, has assured residents of the state’s ongoing safety and security.
According to The PUNCH, speaking to journalists on Sunday, Danjuma emphasized that the police command, in collaboration with other security agencies, is determined to resist any efforts to disrupt the state’s peace.
Danjuma’s comments came in response to a sit-at-home order declared by Simon Ekpa, the self-proclaimed Biafra leader, which is set to take place across the South East states from July 29 to August 2.
He assured that the command under his leadership is dedicated to safeguarding the lives and properties of both citizens and residents.
He revealed that a robust security presence has been deployed across the state to prevent any disorder and to ensure that residents can carry out their daily activities without fear of harm or harassment during the period and beyond.
Addressing the planned nationwide protest, Danjuma acknowledged citizens’ right to protest but stressed the necessity of adhering to peaceful and non-violent measures. He called on parents and community leaders to educate their children and wards on the consequences of participating in violent demonstrations.
Danjuma underscored that the security and development of the state and nation is a shared responsibility of all citizens. He warned that any individuals seeking to exploit the protest for criminal purposes should stay away from Imo State. He stated, “Hoodlums who intend to exploit the protest for their criminal gains or agendas to stay off Imo state,” emphasizing that any harm to innocent citizens or damage to property would be met with strict legal consequences.
