A fitness trainer hailing from Slovenia, Tomaz Zorec, has been enlisted to join Augustine Eguavoen in preparing the Super Eagles for their crucial 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying matches against Benin Republic and Rwanda.
Zorec’s inclusion in the coaching team was confirmed by the Nigeria Football Federation as part of a broader reorganization of the national team’s technical staff.
Eguavoen, who has been appointed as the caretaker head coach, will be supported by assistants Fidelis Ilechukwu and Daniel Ogunmodede, who are both known for their tactical acumen in the Nigerian football scene.
Abiodun Baruwa, a former Super Eagles goalkeeper, retains his position as the goalkeeper trainer, bringing his extensive experience between the posts to the role. Meanwhile, Eboboritse Uwejamomere has been appointed as the match analyst, tasked with providing in-depth analysis of the team’s performances and opponents.
The Super Eagles’ camp in Uyo is already buzzing with activity as seven players have reported for duty, eager to secure their place in the starting lineup.
The team’s preparations will culminate in a high-stakes match against Benin Republic on Saturday, which marks the beginning of their AFCON 2025 qualifying campaign.
Following this, the team is scheduled to depart for Kigali on Sunday, where they will face the Amavubi, Bees, of Rwanda on Tuesday.
The match, set to take place at the Amahoro Stadium, will kick off at 3pm local time (2pm Nigeria time), and is expected to be a stern test for the three-time African champions.
