The Sokoto State Government has bolstered its healthcare system by hiring 845 nurses and midwives to improve the quality of healthcare services across its primary health centres.
According to The PUNCH, this was revealed by the Economic Adviser to the Sokoto State Governor, Dr. Bashir Achida, during an interview with journalists in Abuja on Friday.
Achida explained that the recruitment initiative was driven by the urgent need to fill the gap in medical personnel, particularly in primary healthcare, where shortages have significantly impacted service delivery.
He emphasized that the government’s focus is on tackling critical health challenges such as maternal and infant mortality, as well as Vesicovaginal fistula a condition prevalent among women in the region.
“At the moment, I don’t think that there is any state in this country that has employed 845 nurses and midwives in one year for its primary health care centres,” Achida stated, underlining the scale and significance of the recruitment
