The presence of men of the Nigerian Army in Oshodi area of Lagos State in the early hours of Monday has caused tension among residents of the area.
While the reason for the development is yet to be determined, it’s been reported that the soldiers are searching bags and pockets of citizens in the area.
A source confirmed the development in a phone conversation with Punch Metro that some reporters were at the scene.
According to some journalists at the scene of the operation, it was gathered that over 50 touts, popularly known as ‘agberos’, have been arrested in the operation.
“Soldiers have taken over Oshodi. They are searching for citizen’s bags and checking pockets.
“Also, it’s reported that they’ve arrested over 50 Agbero boys,’ the source stated.
A Twitter user, @OgoMushin, tweeted, “He be like say they don declare state of emergency for oshodi, cause I don’t understand what I’m seeing right now.”
Another tweep, @Olu_Bebeji, tweeted, “Oshodi under bridge is not funny at all. Hefty military men have occupied it and made some arrest. You have to raised your both hands up as an access to pass.”
