Operatives of the Nigerian Army have arrested the prime suspect behind the murder of the slain Alhaji Adamu Idris Gabdo, the Ardo of Panyam in Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State.
Reports in early October revealed that the Fulani leader was killed on Friday, September 22, after he went missing on Sunday, September 24, 2023, having left Bauchi State on a visit to friends and relatives in Plateau State.
However, in a statement released by the army on Wednesday, the suspect identified as Mr Philip Gokas also known as Jaykimo was apprehended by troops of Operation SAFE HAVEN Tactical Team in Lagos State “following weeks of painstaking manhunt to bring the criminal to Justice.”
Punch Metro gathered that Gokas was arrested while drinking beer at a football viewing centre after he was tracked to the Ogba area of Lagos State following “relentless pursuit by OPSH.”
The army revealed that “Gokas has fully confessed to the crime and has provided crucial information that will aid in the arrest of additional individuals involved in this heinous act in the coming days.
“This development serves as a clear warning to criminals that they cannot elude justice as security agencies retain the capacity and resilience to utilise all elements of national power to hold them accountable as directed by the Chief of Defence Staff, Gen CG Musa.”
The statement added, “The breakthrough also signifies a milestone in our pursuit of justice.”
The army also assured Plateau residents of its commitment to maintain peace and security in the state and surroundings.
“We therefore remain steadfast in our commitment to maintaining peace and security on the Plateau and its environs. We will continue to work tirelessly to prevent any escalation of violence,” the statement added.
