Death figures in recent Southern Kaduna killings has reportedly hit 38.
PUNCH METRO reported that terrorists, on Sunday night, allegedly killed over 28 people in separate attacks in Malagum 1 and Sokwong communities of Kagoro Chiefdom in the Kaura Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
In a latest development, the Councilor representing Malagum 1 community, Atuk Stephen on Tuesday stated that the death toll in the killings hit 38 on Monday.
Atuk stated that all residents of the affected communities has deserted their respective towns in search of safety in neighboring villages.
He explained that in Sokong, 10 corpses were discovered, 20 motorcycles were destroyed, and 62 houses were completely destroyed, whereas in Malagum 1, 28 dead bodies were discovered and 102 houses were destroyed.
He described the situation as barbaric and urged the government to provide victims with relief materials as soon as possible.
“As I am talking to you now, non of these villagers escaped with a single cup of beans. Their foodstuffs were completed burnt down.
“There is no any official IDP camp now, the victims are taking refuge in some neighbouring communities while some of them are in some primary schools,” Atuk disclosed.
Atuk, who is also the legislative speaker for the Kaura council, expresses concern that elections may not take place in these at-risk Communities.
“There are ongoing plans to disfranchise our people from participating in the 2023 general elections. The government must show its might in ensuring these terrorist are crushed while sanity should be restored before the elections,” he added.
An anonymous resident claimed that there had been an attempted kidnapping in one of the neighborhoods.
He claimed that despite bringing in militia, the local Fulanis were unable to settle them and that their only option was to kidnap them, demand a ransom, and then pay it.
“The attackers rustle some Cows and carted away food stuffs of the Villagers. We’re aggrieved for the loss of our love ones.
“No security stationed at the affected communities as talk to you now. We want the government to deployed security in the vulnerable communities that would help reduce tension,” the source added.
