The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, has expressed deep sorrow over the death of Alhaji Isa Muhammad Bawa, the District Head of Gatawa in Sokoto State, who died in captivity after being kidnapped by bandits.
Alhaji Bawa and his son were abducted on July 29, with reports confirming that the district head passed away while still in the kidnappers’ den.
In a statement issued by his media aide, Musa Krishi, on Thursday, Speaker Abbas condemned the kidnapping and the brutal treatment meted out to the late traditional ruler, describing the incident as “barbaric” and “inhuman.”
“The abduction of the District Head was an act of barbarity, and the way he was treated by these criminals was nothing short of inhumane,” Abbas stated.
He also lamented the persistent kidnappings across the country, emphasizing that such acts are “unacceptable.”
The Speaker extended his heartfelt condolences to the family of the late Sarkin Gobir, the Gatawa community in Sabon Birni Local Government Area, and the people and government of Sokoto State, acknowledging the profound loss they have suffered.
Abbas concluded by offering prayers for the deceased, saying, “May Allah have mercy on the soul of Alhaji Isa Muhammad Bawa and grant him Jannatul Firdaus as his final resting place.”
