The Sokoto State Government has raised concerns about the dangerous use of traditional methods to treat metal poisoning, particularly the harmful practice of making incisions on patients’ stomachs.
The state’s Commissioner for Health, Dr. Abubakar Wurno, strongly condemned this approach and called for it to be halted immediately.
He emphasized the importance of seeking proper medical care in hospitals rather than relying on unsafe traditional treatments.
“The practice of making incisions on the stomach of patients suffering from metal poisoning must stop immediately,” Dr. Wurno stated.
Speaking at the presentation of government-supplied drugs for metal poisoning treatment at the General Hospital in Tureta, Dr. Wurno urged that individuals experiencing symptoms should be promptly brought to medical facilities for appropriate treatment.
Representing Dr. Wurno at the event, Dr. Bello Attahiru, Executive Director of the State Hospital Services Management Board, reassured the public that essential drugs would be distributed to all general hospitals treating metal poisoning cases.
Chairman of Tureta Local Government Council, Alhaji Aliyu Tureta, expressed his gratitude for the timely provision of the medical supplies and promised that the local government would ensure the drugs were used properly for their intended purpose.
