Following the intervention of President Bola Tinubu and the Senate, the Nigeria Labour Congress has confirmed the suspension of its planned strike.
According to The PUNCH, the resolution came after the Congress’s National Executive Council meeting.
In a curt message given to our correspondent this morning (Thursday), the national treasurer, Hakeem Ambali, wrote, “Protest suspended due to Senate intervention and meeting with President Tinubu yesterday.”
Yesterday’s nationwide protest by the NLC, which included the FCT, necessitated an immediate meeting between the President and the labour leaders.
The NLC had previously stated that it would only terminate its strike if the government shown seriousness.
During the Abuja rally on Wednesday, irate protestors tore down the gates of the National Assembly in order to gain entrance to the premises and speak with MPs.
Following the meeting with Tinubu, the NLC president, Joe Ajaero, stated that the President had made certain commitments.
The workers union is anticipated to provide a briefing to the general public soon.
