The Super Falcons of Nigeria on Friday played a goaless draw with their Canadian counterpart in group B game.
The Canadian team who are currently ranked seventh position in the world started strongly in the game, however they were unable to break the Falcons defense which was inspired by beautiful display from Ashleigh Plumptre in the backline.
Nigeria grew into the match, with Canada goalkeeper Kailen Sheridan producing a smart stop to deny Ifeoma Onumonu as she tried her luck from around 20 yards.
Impressively, Falcon’s goalkeeper, Chiamaka Nnadozie, saved a penalty to deny Sinclair a goal in the second half.
The Super Falcons were reduced to 10 in the last minutes of the game as Abiodun was shown a red card after a nasty tackle on Canadian player, Lawrence in the 98minutes.
The draw gave World Cup co-hosts Australia the advantage in Group B.
Canada return to action on July 26, when they take on an Ireland side that lost narrowly to Australia on the opening night. Nigeria, meanwhile, will play the Matildas the following day.
