The Super Falcons of Nigeria fell to Spain in their Group C match, losing 1-0 on Sunday evening during the Paris 2024 Women’s Olympic Football tournament.
In their second match of the tournament, both teams fought hard, but it was Spain’s Alexia Putellas who made the difference with a decisive 85th-minute free kick that caught Nigerian goalkeeper Nnadozie off guard.
The victory secured Spain’s place in the quarterfinals, with one match remaining against Brazil on Wednesday.
Despite creating several scoring opportunities, the Falcons were unable to capitalize, with team captain Rasheedat Ajibade missing a critical one-on-one chance.
This defeat leaves Nigeria at the bottom of the group standings with no points, following a previous 1-0 loss to Brazil.
The Super Falcons will face Japan on Wednesday, with their chances of advancing in the tournament now slim.
