The suspended Chairman of Ogun State’s Ijebu East Local Government Area, Hon Wale Adedayo, who had been arrested by the Department of State Security Services since last Friday, has been released.
According to The PUNCH, Adedayo told journalists in Abeokuta shortly after his release that he was summoned by the DSS based on a petition alleging that he was making inflammatory remarks that could jeopardise public order.
The suspended LG chief, on the other hand, said that he told the DSS that he had never made any inflammatory remarks other than his claim that local governments had received no funding from the state government in the previous two years.
He said he was unshaken by his ordeals thus far and that he would certainly appeal what he called his illegitimate suspension from office last Thursday.
Adedayo revealed that the letter sent to former state governor Chief Olusegun Osoba to report Governor Dapo Abiodun was written with the support of other chairmen in the state, but he was surprised they could all withdraw from the fight, which is primarily intended to ensure good governance at the grassroots.
Recall that the suspended chairman had sent a petition to the anti-graft organisations and written a letter to the state’s previous governor, Osoba, stating that the current governor, Dapo Abiodun, had misappropriated public funds.
However, the accusation has been refuted by the Joint Account and Allocation Committee in the state, which is tasked with administering the local government federal appropriations, and it is confirmed that all amount approved by the Committee flowed via the various Local Council Accounts.
