A peaceful protest by members of the #TakeItBack Movement, Civil Society Organisations, and the Niger Delta Congress was disrupted on Monday after police operatives in Rivers State fired tear gas to disperse the demonstrators.
According to The PUNCH, the protesters had gathered at Isaac Boro Park in Port Harcourt to voice their demands when security operatives from the Rivers State Police Command arrived and ordered them to vacate the venue.
Despite the directive, the demonstrators remained resolute, chanting solidarity songs and proceeding with their march through the park and towards the busy Aba Expressway.
However, at the CFC junction, heavily armed anti-riot officers intercepted the group once more and again instructed them to leave the area.
When the protesters stood their ground, the police responded by launching tear gas canisters, forcing the crowd to flee in different directions.
