The late Senator Ifeanyi Ubah was laid to rest on Friday at his family residence in Umuanukam, Otolo Nnewi, Nnewi North Local Government Area of Anambra State.
His burial drew a crowd of dignitaries, family members, political allies, and friends, who gathered to pay their final respects.
A burial mass held at St. Peter’s Claver Catholic Church, Umuanukam, was officiated by the Bishop of Ekwulobia Diocese, Peter Cardinal Okpaleke.
In his homily, the Cardinal reflected on the senator’s life and the lessons it offered. He emphasized the need for individuals to leave behind legacies that would positively impact others.
“Senator Ifeanyi Ubah’s death is a reminder to all of us about the importance of living lives that others will celebrate when we are gone.
He was known for his philanthropy and his drive to make a difference. Such a legacy is worth emulating,” Cardinal Okpaleke said.
Governor Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State, who was present at the funeral, expressed deep sorrow at the senator’s unexpected passing. Recalling their last meeting, he noted how Ubah’s death was a shocking development.
“In May, we spoke about his aspirations and the future. He told me, ‘The only way forward is for Sir Emeka Offor to convene a meeting at our request.’ Never did I think that death would interrupt our plans. This loss is truly heartbreaking,” Soludo said.
Senator Uche Ekwunife also paid tribute, describing Ubah as a visionary leader who was deeply dedicated to youth empowerment.
“You were not just a political figure; you embodied leadership through your kindness and actions. Your commitment to youth development and sports will leave an indelible mark on generations to come,” Ekwunife remarked.
One of the late senator’s kinsmen, Joe Ezeike, highlighted the void left by his passing in both the political and humanitarian spheres.
“His absence is deeply felt, but his legacy of service, compassion, and excellence will inspire countless individuals for years to come,” Ezeike said.
