A 17-year-old teenager tragically lost his life after being electrocuted while assisting his stepfather at a construction site in Lagos.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria, the incident occurred on August 2nd in the Alagbado area of Lagos.
The mother of the deceased reported the incident to the Agbado Police Division after receiving a distressing call from her younger brother, who informed her about the tragic accident.
The boy had accompanied his stepfather, who works as a welder, to build scaffolding at a construction site on Church Street, Alagbado.
While working, the teenager reportedly stepped on a live wire that was haphazardly connected from an electric pole.
He was immediately rushed to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead upon arrival.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed this to the News Agency of Nigeria on Saturday.
Hundeyin said that the mother of the boy, whose name was not given, reported the case to the Agbado Police Division on Aug. 2, at 1pm.
Hundeyin said, “In the process of work, the boy stepped on life wire that was carelessly connected from an electric pole and he died on the spot.
“He was rushed to the hospital and was confirmed dead by the doctor on duty.
“The scene was visited by a team of detectives from the division.
“The corpse has been removed from the scene.
“However, no mark of violence was seen.
“The stepfather has been brought to the station for questioning.
“Investigation is ongoing.”
