Danielle Collins may not have lifted a trophy at the Miami Open, but she gained something even more meaningful, a loyal new companion, dog named Crash.
While near Hard Rock Stadium, the world No. 15 spotted an injured dog lying helplessly in the middle of the road.
Unable to ignore the situation, she quickly stepped in to help. After securing veterinary care and watching Crash make a remarkable recovery, Collins made the heartfelt decision to officially adopt him.
Sharing an update on Instagram, Collins revealed that Crash spent five days in the hospital on oxygen support but is now on the mend.
“His breathing is back to normal, his wounds are healing, and he is definitely enjoying all the love he is receiving,” she wrote. “He is curious, affectionate, and grateful for a second chance at life.”
Recalling the distressing moment she found him, the 31-year-old expressed gratitude for being in the right place at the right time.
“It was so incredibly painful to witness a dog in so much pain after being hit by a car, and left in the middle of the road with so many people driving by his curled up body. I’m just grateful I was able to be there and get him the care he needed.”
Crash is now settling into his new home, where he will have Quincy, Collins’ labradoodle, who famously accompanied her courtside in Miami, as his brother. Once fully recovered, he will also be attending school.
“Thank you to everyone who prayed for Crash,” she added. “Also a massive thank you to the wonderful team of veterinarians that took care of Crash and helped him receive the best possible care!”
Collins, a four-time WTA titleholder, made it to the round of 16 in Miami, winning her first two matches before bowing out to top seed Aryna Sabalenka of Belarus.
