A young man popularly known as Biggie has been reportedly shot dead by suspected cultists in Oghara, Ethiope West Local Government Area of Delta State.
The tragic incident was said to have occurred over the weekend around the Waterboard area of the town, sparking fears of a possible reprisal attack by rival groups.
According to residents who knew the deceased, Biggie was well-regarded in the community and not known to be involved in any cult activities.
“Biggie was a quiet, friendly and gentle guy. He did not appear to me as a cultist. It is sad that he could be shot dead,” a resident in Oghara said.
The killing has sent shockwaves through the town, with many expressing concern over the deteriorating security situation and the potential for further violence.
According to Vanguard, a police source who confirmed the incident disclosed that officers have stepped up surveillance and intensified patrols across the area in a bid to prevent any outbreak of violence.
The source said security operatives are working to identify those behind the killing and to forestall any cult-related clashes that may arise in its aftermath.
