The Taiwanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs has warned its citizens against travelling to Nigeria’s capital Abuja and to Sandton, the financial centre of Johannesburg, South Africa following terror alerts issued by the United States and some other Western Countries.
According to a local media, Focus Taiwan, the ministry issued a statement on Saturday, instructing Taiwan’s representative offices in Nigeria and South Africa to alert Taiwanese living in those countries of possible terror attacks so they can avoid going to the targeted areas.
The U.S., U.K., Canada, Australia and some European countries have issued a security advisory to their citizens in Nigeria due to an “elevated threat of terrorist attack”
The U.S. Embassy in South Africa said via its website that it had received information that terrorists may be planning an attack targeting large gatherings of people at an unspecified location in the area on October 29.
“Meanwhile, the U.S. Embassy in South Africa has advised staff to avoid crowds of people and other large public gatherings in the Greater Sandton area of Johannesburg on Oct. 29 and 30.”, the ministry said in the statement.
