The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has secured the conviction of 19 offenders, including three drug kingpins, who have been sentenced to a total of 302 years in prison.
“The conviction of these drug kingpins and offenders is a testament to our commitment to ridding Nigeria of illicit drugs,” said Femi Babafemi, NDLEA Spokesperson.
“We will continue to work tirelessly to ensure that those involved in this nefarious trade are brought to justice.”
The convicts were found guilty of trafficking and dealing in illicit drugs such as cocaine, heroin, methamphetamine, cannabis, and opioids.
The cases were heard in Federal High Courts across Benue, Bauchi, Edo, Lagos, Ogun, Gombe, and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
One of the kingpins, Bolanle Dauda, was arrested with 57.5 kilograms of cocaine, while another, Ikeh Stanley Ifeanyi, was found with 1,100 ampoules of fentanyl, a lethal synthetic opioid.
The third kingpin, Christian Anyanwu, was caught with 1.4 kilograms of methamphetamine concealed inside custard tins.
“We are making progress in our fight against drug trafficking, but we cannot do it alone,” said Babafemi.
“We need the support of Nigerians to report suspicious activities and help us rid our country of this menace.”
