The National Agency for Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons, Anambra State, in collaboration with vigilantes has announced that it has arrested three persons who had allegedly raped a 13-year-old girl.
According to The PUNCH, four people allegedly performed the act, however one was said to have escaped during the point of arrest.
According to the state Commissioner for Women and Social Affairs, Ify Obinabo through her media aide, Chidimma Ikeanyionwu, the culprits had been handed over to the state police headquarters in Awka, where they would be prosecuted.
The commissioner praised the victim for speaking forward following the event and assured her that justice will be served.
During questioning, two of the suspects allegedly confessed to the crime and begged forgiveness, claiming they raped the victim following a fight with her father.
However, the third suspect stated that he was just present at the time of the incident.
Despite his allegations, the victim apparently insisted on being the second person to have carnal knowledge of her.
“According to the victim, the suspects were co-tenants with them but took her to Nkisi River to rape her after they had an altercation with her father.
“The victim, while narrating her experience, said she was first slapped by the boys, then dragged to Nkisi, before she was ordered to remove her clothes as the suspects took turns to have carnal knowledge of her,” the commissioner added.
