The Lagos Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a Senior Police officer and two others over the death of a female lawyer dead in Lagos on Christmas day.
It was alleged that the suspects shot the lawyer identified as Bolanle Raheem, in Ajah area of Lagos State.
According to reports, the lawyer, her sister, and four kids were driving away from a restaurant in their car at around 11 am when a police officer tried to pull them over but instead fired at the driver.
Sources said that the police officer, who was accompanied by a group of police officers, shot the woman as she attempted to do a U-turn beneath the Ajah Bridge and then fled the scene.
After being taken to the hospital immediately, the woman was declared dead.
The public relations officer for the Lagos State Police, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the occurrence and called it regrettable and avoidable. He noted that the officers involved had been detained while the inquiry was ongoing and has now been arrested.
He wrote: “Unfortunate and avoidable incident that was. The ASP that shot and two others with him have since been taken into custody. They are to be moved to the SCID for further investigation.”
