Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, has said that President Bola Tinubu acknowledged the challenging economic times faced by Nigerians.
He disclosed this at a service held on Monday to celebrate the 70th birthday of Serving Overseer of the Citadel Global Community Church, Pastor Tunde Bakare.
The event, which gathered numerous dignitaries, was held at The Citadel on Kudirat Abiola Way, Oregun, Lagos.
Representing the President, in his speech, Akume emphasized Tinubu’s understanding of the economic difficulties confronting citizens, saying that although times are tough, the government is taking strategic steps to ensure future prosperity.
“The President acknowledges that times are hard, but at the end of the tunnel, there is always light,” Akume noted, reflecting the administration’s message of resilience and hope. “And solutions to complex problems can never be as instant as coffee, but we are on the right track,” he added, underscoring the gradual nature of the reforms being implemented.
This acknowledgment comes as the Tinubu administration has introduced significant economic reforms, including the removal of the longstanding fuel subsidy and the floating of the naira.
These policies, which the Presidency views as critical to reviving Nigeria’s economy, have had immediate impacts on the cost of living, adding strain to daily life for many Nigerians.
The administration believes, however, that these changes are essential steps toward achieving long-term economic stability.
During the occasion, the President—through Akume—also praised Pastor Bakare, lauding him as a “true man of God” with an unshakeable commitment to truth and justice.
Tinubu expressed heartfelt admiration for Bakare’s influence as both a spiritual leader and a social advocate.
“Pastor Bakare, fondly called P.T.B., has been a beacon of hope and a voice for the voiceless in our society. His influence as a spiritual leader, nation builder, and advocate for truth has left an indelible mark, not just on those who follow his teachings, but on the nation as a whole,” Tinubu said, highlighting Bakare’s impact beyond the pulpit.
Acknowledging Bakare’s long-standing dedication to values of integrity, transparency, and fairness, Tinubu’s message praised him for his decades of selfless service.
“His decades of service and dedication to the principles of honesty, transparency, and fairness have earned him the respect and admiration of many across this nation and beyond,” Tinubu continued.
The President noted how Bakare’s fearless advocacy and powerful messages resonate deeply, driving meaningful change in society.
Joining Akume in celebrating Bakare’s milestone were the governors of Lagos and Ogun states, Babajide Sanwo-Olu and Dapo Abiodun, as well as other distinguished guests.
They took the opportunity to honour Bakare’s legacy both as a vibrant political voice and as a devoted spiritual leader within Nigeria’s religious community.
