President Bola Tinubu has hailed Governor-elect Lucky Aiyedatiwa of the All Progressives Congress following his victory in the Ondo State governorship election held on Saturday.
In a statement by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, on Sunday, Tinubu lauded the peaceful conduct of the election and commended all candidates for demonstrating maturity during the campaign and voting process.
“Governor Aiyedatiwa’s victory is a testament to the trust the people of Ondo State have in his leadership.”
He also praised the peaceful atmosphere of the election, adding, “This sense of order and purpose must extend to the post-election period to ensure unity and development.”
The Independent National Electoral Commission officially declared Aiyedatiwa the winner on Sunday.
The Returning Officer, Prof. Olayemi Akinwunmi, who also serves as the Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Lokoja, announced that Aiyedatiwa secured 366,781 votes, defeating his closest rival, Ajayi Agboola of the Peoples Democratic Party, who polled 117,845 votes.
The President applauded INEC for its efficient organisation, noting that over 98 per cent of election results were uploaded on the same day.
“The conduct of the election reaffirms the capacity of INEC to deliver credible processes, thanks to its early preparations and effective handling of logistics,” he said.
Tinubu also commended the security agencies, including the Nigerian Police Force, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Federal Road Safety Corps, the National Youth Service Corps, and the military, for maintaining peace and order during the election.
For candidates dissatisfied with the outcome, the President urged them to seek redress through legal channels.
“The judicial system remains the appropriate avenue for addressing any grievances arising from the election,” Tinubu advised.
Aiyedatiwa’s victory strengthens the APC’s hold on Ondo State and reinforces confidence in Nigeria’s electoral process.
