President Bola Tinubu has directed Vice President Kashim Shettima to immediately visit Maiduguri, Borno State, following severe flooding that has devastated the city.
The visit was made known by the Vice President while speaking on Tuesday at the 17th Annual Banking and Finance Conference which was centred around the theme “Accelerated Economic Growth and Development: Current Status and Future Directions.”
Shettima said, based on the president’s consent, he would travel to Maiduguri immediately after leaving the meeting as the whole city has been overtaken.
“With the President’s consent, I will rush to Maiduguri after this meeting.
“The whole city has been overtaken by flood. We face this challenge across the country, from Bayelsa to Sokoto.”
Shettima expressed sympathy for those affected by the floods, saying, “I commiserate with the people of our great nation over the flood disasters we are recording all across the length and breadth of this nation.”
He assured Nigerians that President Tinubu is committed to addressing the situation, saying, “The President has the nation at heart and will do whatever it takes to salvage the state of affairs.”
