President Bola Tinubu is set to leave Abuja on Monday, January 6, for Accra, Ghana’s capital, where he will attend the swearing-in ceremony of President-elect John Dramani Mahama on January 7.
Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, disclosed this in a statement issued on Sunday.
The statement, titled President Tinubu to Attend the Inauguration of John Mahama, President-elect of Ghana, highlighted that the visit follows an earlier invitation from Mahama, who had met with Tinubu in December.
Mahama, Ghana’s 12th president from 2011 to 2017, reclaimed the presidency in the December 2024 elections.
He will be succeeding President Nana Akuffo-Addo, who served from 2017 to 2025.
Onanuga noted, “Mahama and President Tinubu have a longstanding personal relationship, just like Nigeria and Ghana maintain a longstanding bilateral relationship.”
In his capacity as the Chairman of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government, Tinubu will join other African leaders for the inauguration.
He will be accompanied by Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Mrs. Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, and other senior government officials, marking his second official visit to Ghana.
