President Bola Tinubu will officially swear in Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun as the new Chief Justice of Nigeria on August 23, 2024.
According to The PUNCH, the inauguration ceremony is scheduled to be held at the State House Council Chambers in Abuja.
Justice Kekere-Ekun is set to take over from Justice Olukayode Ariwoola, who retired on Thursday after a distinguished career in the judiciary.
Reflecting on Justice Ariwoola’s contributions, President Tinubu described his career as a “successful public service,” and praised his leadership.
“Justice Ariwoola’s leadership of the judiciary has been impactful, enriching our legal system and strengthening the fabric of the law,” Tinubu said in a statement through his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale.
Justice Ariwoola, who was appointed Chief Justice by former President Muhammadu Buhari in October 2022, previously served in various capacities, including as a Justice of the Court of Appeal in Kaduna, Enugu, and Lagos, before being elevated to the Supreme Court in 2011.
As Tinubu prepares to usher in a new era under Justice Kekere-Ekun’s leadership, he extended his gratitude to Ariwoola
