At least 14 worshippers were killed and several others injured when a trailer plowed into Jumuat prayer attendees in Imama town, located in Kura Local Government Area of Kano State.
According to The PUNCH, the tragic incident occurred shortly after Friday prayers. The trailer, with number plate MKA 537XN and traveling from the Kaduna axis, lost control and struck the worshippers.
Spokesman for the Federal Road Safety Corps, Kano Sector Command, Abdullahi Labaran, in a statement said the accident was reported around 1:50 pm on Friday.
The Kano Sector Commander of the FRSC, Ibrahim Abdullahi, confirmed that nine of the deceased were buried that afternoon, and the injured are receiving treatment at a hospital.
The driver of the trailer is currently at large.
“Upon receiving the distress call, FRSC Kano State Command promptly dispatched personnel to the scene, alongside other security agencies, to initiate rescue operations and provide immediate medical assistance to the injured victims,” the statement said.
Abdullahi emphasized the FRSC’s dedication to road safety and urged all road users to strictly follow traffic regulations to avoid such preventable tragedies.
“The Sector Commander extends heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased,” the statement added.
