A tragic incident unfolded in Lagos on Monday when a fast-moving train struck and killed an unidentified person along the railway tracks at the Cappa area in Oshodi.
The incident, which sent shockwaves through the community, occurred around 3 p.m., according to an eyewitness, Mr. Akin Rowland.
The victim, believed to be an adult male, was caught on the tracks as the train sped towards him.
Despite the loud horns and warnings, he was unable to move out of harm’s way in time. The train, traveling at high speed, hit the man, leading to a grisly scene that left onlookers in shock.
Immediately following the accident, men of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency were dispatched to the scene.
The agency’s Response Team, based at Cappa, acted swiftly to secure the area and recover the remains of the deceased.
The impact of the collision had dismembered the body, making the recovery effort particularly challenging.
“The LASEMA Response Team from Cappa Base recovered the corpse of an adult male hit by a train along the railway tracks at Cappa on Monday,” confirmed a LASEMA official who was part of the rescue operation.
The team worked diligently to ensure that the scene was cleared quickly, minimizing disruption to the railway services and reducing the distress for those who witnessed the event.
After the body was recovered, the remains were transported to the General Hospital mortuary for identification and further procedures.
“The remains has been deposited at the General Hospital mortuary,” the LASEMA official added.
The authorities are now working to identify the deceased and notify his next of kin, while also investigating the circumstances leading to the tragic incident.
This unfortunate event has once again highlighted the dangers of crossing or walking along railway tracks in Lagos, a practice that continues despite numerous warnings and public safety campaigns.
