Troops of 33 Artillery Brigade in Bauchi have arrested two suspected drug dealers with substances suspected to be cannabis sativa wrapped in 512 parcels and four bags in the state.
The Brigade Commandant, Brig. Gen. Emmanuel Egbe, made this known while handing them over to the officials of the National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency on Tuesday in Bauchi.
The suspects and the substances have been handed over to the Bauchi State Command of the NDLEA.
Egbe disclosed that the suspects were arrested with the substances in a branded energy drink pickup with different makeshift compartments inside the vehicles with registration number AKD 654 XT Lagos.
He said, “The items intercepted in the vehicles are four bags, 512 percels of suspected cannabis sativa and 104 packs of soft drinks used to cover the Indian hemp.
“Other items recovered from the suspects are four phones, five ATM cards, a driver’s license, two padlocks, and N13,550 cash.
“The suspected peddlers were intercepted by operatives of the Brigade on Monday, 23, 2023 around 8: 00pm at Rinjin Gani village along Jos road in Toro Local Government area of Bauchi State.”
The Brigade Commander, represented by Acting Garrison Commander, Lt. Col. Abdulrahman Modibbo, identified the suspects as Adamu Ali, 32 years and Mohammed Idon, 42 years.
He urged NDLEA officials to always furnish the Brigade headquarters with the outcome of their investigations for records purposes.
Egbe warned criminals and their likes to desist from committing crimes or face full wrath of the law if caught in the act as the army would not rest on its oars to deal decisively with criminals
Reacting, the NDLEA Chief Superintendent of Narcotics, Nimfa Joel, hailed the army for its wonderful efforts and partnership in the fight against drug trafficking and abuse.
He assured that the agency would launch an investigation into the matter and prosecute the suspects according to the relevant laws assuring that the brigade will be carried along.
